Need Help Decifering This Gold & Diamond & Enamel Whatsit!!

I suspect that this beautiful Diamond studded jewel was part of a Victorian necklace at one time. It is made like a buckle/slider and probably was on a velvet band that an Elegant lady wore like a choker around her neck. Is there a name for this item? It is tiny (3/4" by 1/2"), is made of Gold and has a dozen small diamonds encrusted in the initials. It was tested and is 14-18K Gold but simply has the letter "E" on the back frame. The white enameling on the front is accented with tiny black dots. What I am especially trying to find out is the lettering...I see an "L" and possibly a "K" or "R" but it is so entwined that it is difficult to know for sure. I have taken some close-up photos....any comments/suggestions? Is it American since American Gold was not always hallmarked? RER(BOB)
