These chairs were made in the chair factory in Fryeburg, Maine, which burned down in 1903. The characteristic grooves on the top of the runners and the embossed leather seat identify the "Mother's" rocker. The child's chairs are identical excepting that one has runners. They have both leather seats and backs as well as brass caps on the stiles. All are made of oak and have original parts. These chairs have remained in the same family since their purchase in approximately 1890. The rhythmic "creak" of an old rocker and the comfort of the large, round seat and wide arms has made this the perfect setting for feeding & soothing babies! I am a fourth generation owner and the fifth & sixth generations are in line to inherit.
Seen the round one at a shop in NH years ago ..wanted to buy it.. but they wernt willing to
come down on the price ...

I knew because it has been in my family since purchased around 1890-1892. I have 5 generations of family pictures sitting in the little chairs. How did you acquire yours and where are you located now? I still have family in Fryeburg but live in N.C.
