I've seen several variations (detail and size) of this particular Cuckoo & Quail clock and every couple of months, another one pops up on Ebay. Referenced as the The Fox and the Grapes taken from the Aesop fable. Not a terribly uncommon Black Forest clock, but it's kind of fun to own. The quail bird sounds at the 15 minute interval, chirping one time at 15 minutes, twice at 3o minutes and so on. The cuckoo bird does his cuckooing thing on the hour(s) and half as normal. This is a clock I purchased on an offer basis from one of only two sellers that I like. 30 hour movement had been cleaned and the case in superb condition. And this seller packs a clock the way it should be packed! Overall dimensions of the clock case is 26" x 18 1/2 width. Movement stamped GK.

A double bird clock is something I don't see every day. Neat piece.

Glad the ol' double bird thing caught your attention, fortapache. But, unfortunately, rare they are not. What's terrific is when you find an old 19th or early 20th century Black Forest cuckoo (or quail cuckoo) clock case in super nice condition without a myriad of repairs to the carving. Thanks for hitting the love button!

Another nice one. My friend has a Gordian Hettiche cuckoo/quail and it's been recently overhauled. All it really needs now is a new pendulum specially made for it to be keeping with the style of case and a new cresting made which is missing. The quail call is good and strong. Interestingly, even after overhaul, the quail side needs a big, heavy weight to operate it.
