The first one I have had , It is a Jenny Lind Rope Bed ( also called a spool bed) ~ Mid 1800s. Very nice !

manikin, were the side rails attach to the Headboard and Footboard looks like a round wooden peg would have been inserted there????
  4. Manikin Manikin, 6 months ago
The pegs were for the rope to be tied to as the foundation of bed was made of rope Mike and yes the side rails attach to headboard and footboard . The rope was wrapped around pegs , actually straight behind them one rope wrapped around to hold bed together and also wove to make base to put frame on . I will try and find a photo. I can not see the other beds clear enough to help on them .
Here is one I think you can see how it goes together . Not exact bed but a rope bed like yours

I had a Jenny Lind Bed in my younger years, I really liked it because it was long and I could stretch out on it. Being a tall person, it was very comfortable.
