Carling was a poor man's beer and it was nasty tasting. I'm not sure when they went out of business but it was popular during the 50's & 60's. The company gave away the trays to bars as a way of advertising. Although I never saw one that was solid brass. Perhaps brass plated but not solid brass.

Carling is still going strong although the Black label name was dropped in 1997, it was used from 1927. It is made in Canada but is sold all over the world and is popular in many commonwealth countries. It was one of the best selling beers in Britain in the 1970's and 80's due to the advertising campaign "I bet he drinks Carling Black Label".
