This is a 1972 self-adhesive postage stamp issued by the Kingdom of Tonga. Tonga was the first country to issue self-adhesive backed postage stamps.
- Tonga is a Polynesian sovereign state and archipelago comprising 176 islands with a surface area of about 750 square kilometres (290 sq mi) scattered over 700,000 square kilometres (270,000 sq mi) of the southern Pacific Ocean. - Tonga is one of the few countries that have successfully resisted European colonization and it has never lost its sovereignty to a foreign power. The series of 15 different denominations was issued on September 30, 1972
