Interesting find of a specialty open end wrench. Appears to have been hand made with welded joints, grinder marks and signs of non-uniformity that a mass produced product would have had . The name "ARMOUR&CO." are stamped on one side of the handle. The head sizes are 7/8" and 1 1/8". Could have been used by maintenance workers at Armour & Company of Chicago. Crafted from 1/2" mild steel.
These were commonly called knuckle savers but I don't know what their official name was. I have several of them that belonged to my father in law. We see them frequently at the flea market with all kinds of different markings.
Like Fhrjr2 said...it's also been called an "S" wrench or "S" spanner. Used for convenience in confined spots, and to keep the skin on your fingers. This is an old one, however, I think that co is still around today, and are into a lot of high tech gadgetry, and they also make the throw away wrenches that are sometimes with "assembly required" hardware
