Last week I sent an "Empire Strikes Back" poster from 1980 to the artist who created it, Roger Kastel. I wrote about Roger's "Jaws" poster a year or two ago, so when my friend Naomi recently gave me this Star Wars poster as a gift, I contacted Roger and asked him if he'd be willing to sign it. He did, and also sent me a couple of signed photos of his original and early treatments for the poster. The studio eventually went with a version that included the Han and Leia "Gone with the Wind" pose, but I think I like the one Roger describes as "one of my favorite versions" even better because it plays up the father-son story, which is really the meat of the movie, right?
Thanks Naomi, and thank you Roger!
