This is a Rick Griffin designed postcard version of rock poster for Big Brother and the Holding Company, who played with the Sir Douglas Quintet at the Avalon on May 5-7, 1967. Like the last rock poster I posted (for a show by Traffic at the Fillmore and Winterland), this one features a photo by Bob Seidemann. It's a portrait of the band in Old West, Gold Rush Era garb, with Janis Joplin front and center. People call this poster Motherload because that's what it says across the top. Probably a reference to the Gold Rush look of the photo. Also known as FD-060 among poster collectors.

Really don't know how I missed this.... Huge fan, almost fall into "groupie" category. Number 1 favorite song "Ball and Chain"

Thanks, Kerry. I was lucky enough to meet her and the rest of the band a couple of times. First time I saw them was at a free show at a Unitarian church in Terra Linda (north of SF) in 1967...

I 'd still have an unwashed arm or something, if that were the case here, lol. Would have had to get an autograph or smudged hand print :-). Neat story, missed meeting them personally, but made a few shows

Closes contact with a "Name" group, was Kansas, ran with a couple of the band members back in the day, before Don K. found them and introduced them to the world.
