We were told this was a mantle from an older home built in the 1800s. We just can use the top part in our home and have the bottom stored in our shed. We have used the top part (as u can see) as a tv stand. Does anyone know about this mantle?

All together (top and bottom) is way over 10' tall. We had a heck of a time getting just the top part of the mantle into our home, and had to move everything around. We truly made a big mess, some of it shows in the mirror in the middle of the mantle

The figure is probably a Green Man, I suppose. The resemblance to Einstein is interesting too!

Thanks y'all. I love the old wood too. And as far as the figure in middle, I just thought it was a lion hahaa or something, wasn't sure. The sconces r on both sides, the candle holder is stil entact I believe but someone ran electric line for a light bulb shaped like a candle flame (bulb). They ran the electric line inside the brass piece that ran to the back of brass sconce so that the electric line doesn't show but left wires hanging out back when sconce goes into the wood. I'd have left it like it was to begin with as only candle light :) and I'm sure we're never going to hook electric line to or from it so it'll just remain like this. I have cleaned it up though since these pictures. It looks so nice. I just wonder do I continue using Murphy's oil and/or furniture polish to clean or would someone suggest something different? Please let me know

That it's very interesting about "the green man". Never knew for sure what figure was :)

this is a very, very beautiful piece.
Kev, I bought several pieces with the green man on them. They're on the trees in my yard.

Thank u aimathena. I love it too. I just wish I knew of something that could fill in the crack above the sconce in the middle of that fan like design. I have my tv on top and little what-nots sitting on shelf in front of mirror. Like I said, I had them try to get bottom piece inside but they kept taking measuring tapes etc and saying it'll never fit unless we rip part of the ceiling out. Hahaa.
