Here's another of my smaller pocket watches. The smaller sized pocket watches from the late 1800's into the early 1900's were design mainly for women. The Ribbon style fob has an attachment clasp at each end and is adjustable so this could also be worn like a wrist watch.
This Elgin watch is size "0"(approx. 1 1/8 in. dial), model 2, grade 345, pendant wind and set, 15 jewel, 18000bph, 3/4 plate hunter cased 14K produced in 1912.
Nice engraving on this depicting a clover leaf and log cabin on back cover with similar design on front, but cabin has been replaced with the initial "A"
Thanks for looking
Kerry

your watch collection is amazing and in particular I love this one...
what would something like this one cost? I've considered buying one for hubby but never know anyone who knows anything about these pocket or fob watches as I know them.

my uncle was a jeweller but he's long gone...I know we aren't meant to ask for value on out items and of course this item isnt mine...and I'm also not asking to buy...but I just want to know where one would get a nice one but not get ripped off if that makes sense...if I've broken the rules by asking please just delete my comment :)

Thank you AnneLanders, the cost of these are determined mainly with the cost of gold, the case on this one is 14K so "scrapper" would buy this style up and melt down, and throw out the movement. If searching for a "Hunter" cased pocket watch, The same quality movements can be found in a gold filled or silver casings as well, for a lot less money involved. Typically a solid gold case will run in the neighborhood of $1500 +. and the same watch encased in gold filled or silver case will be around 100-500, depending on the jewel count and adjustment count.
I know that sounds confusing, but if looking for a gift and holding value, a "Rail Road" grade pocket watch is a good investment, But if looking for a "Hunter" case ( covered face) , I would have to shop around and find something to fits the lifestyle of the person I'd be giving to.
