    I have no idea what this item is,top is sterling silver,top come off there's some type of wax inside,top has the name Croiseur Perite Recte Colbert,which from my research is the old Colbert ship that is retired in France.This was saved out of the dumpster.

      There were six French naval ships called Colbert, only the last two were cruisers, the one you mentioned which is awaiting dismantling and a previous cruiser which was built around 1928 and was scuttled at Toulon when the french fleet was destroyed in 1942 to stop it falling into German hands. If this is french silver it should have hallmarks which should help to date the item. No idea what it was for though! Regards William
