Hello I have this item with a elephant inside it looks like the hardest thing to make, I wonder if someone can tell me the right name for this kind of thing, i like it and want to find out how long it takes to make one. Is it soapstone ?
Thank you

Hi, I have just brought back a very similar souvenir from India a couple of weeks ago. I dont know what the material is but mine is the same colour but is an elephant with a smaller elephant inside. It seems to be an Indian thing as there were lots of items with elephants inside. It is to do with one of the popular Indian religions. They appear to be mass produced but could be hand made as labour is very cheap in India. I hope that helps.

I would be fairly sure it is a form of soap stone. I have seen the elephant inside an elephant. I believe it was called mother and baby or baby inside mother or something along those lines. Soapstone is pretty soft and easy to work and carve. They aren't expensive and are a fun to have.
