We inherited this Civil War soldier watercolor and know absolutely nothing about it. We tried looking up the artist without much success. It hung in my late father-in-law's house for over 60 years.

this Infantry man could be called "a boy in blue", but most likly not the civil war,
the words Indian Campaign is your first clue. It was painted in 1903 fourty years after the Civil War ended and much longer after the "Indian Campaigns ended. Have you tried to artists name on the internet? Ask Art is a good place to start a search for the artist. It is a wonderful watercolor. Good luck.
This depicts an Infantry Lieutenant and is a quality painting!
The Indian Campaigns took place from 1865- 1891, so this was a fresh subject for the artist.
I found many online references to a Herbert W. Meyer-- American 1882- 1960. I am not sure if this is the same artist.

Yes, I'd say '03 is for 1903-- Meyer (if this is the one noted) was a young artist at that time.

Yes - I missed a word- (not) "much longer after the Indian Campaigns", thanks for catching that. It is a wonderfull watercolor and you should be pleased to have it. The artist shows his ease of skill in this work. On the Northern Plains the Indian campaigns ended in the late 1880's and many territories achived Statehood incl. both North and South Dakota in 1889, this watercolor was painted fourteen years after the North and South Dakota Statehood status.
