Just sent this photo in the hope someone might know what it is and from what country it originates from. Its 9 inches long made from steel inlaid with silver. Had this for years but alas found no information on it. Would be very interested if anyone knew what it was.
Just found out that this is a Sri Lankan Scribes Stylus used to write on treated palm leaves when writing religious texts, monastic records and legends. They usually come with a knife. Thanks for your comments regarding this item.
If it weren't so ornate but plain, I would guess the earliest form of bayonet that fit inside the muzzle of a musket. Of course that's not correct, but might lead somebody in the right direction.

Is there any small hook at the top pointy end?
100% agree. Explains the tip at the lower end. It does look asian, I thought it could have been for silk thread. Fun challenge. Thanks!
