I just couldn't resist buying this and using my GW reward points which made it a good deal. So if it's just Chinese it wasn't that expensive. No marks or labels and quite heavy. Seems to be black glass with an outer layer in a dove grey and maybe even some white in between that. Has a few white imperfection spots under the grey glass on the top. At first I thought it was scratches but it's below the glass. The bottom has a satin finish to the flat portion with the furniture savers. An interesting piece. Love the design and color combo. -Mike-
Note: 6/7/2023 Wow 9 years after the fact I finally know who made this. It was under my desk collecting dust so I gave it a rinse and noticed something faint etched on the bottom. Sure enough it was a signature ! A bit of pencil revealed Ray M Nelson 1998. Not much about him but a few of his pieces did show up online. -Mike-
Cannot tell about maker, but I'd say it's a new design... 80s/90s as the oldest. In any case it's a beautiful vase! I agree with you about the colour combination.
Now I realize you're signing as Mike... I've been calling you mikel all this time as Mikel is the basque form for Michael and it sounded more familiar to me :)
Thanks Austro :) ..... It was on the showcase wall so I imagine they thought it was too good to be put out with the mundane items. I choose this over a tall bud vase that was probably Bohemian. It was a bit more expensive made of clear glass with elaborate gilding and applied enamel flowers at the top that looked like a cake icing decoration. Pretty but it wasn't marked so I passed. I find it hard talking to everyone using their avatar's that's why I started using my name. I know most people's first names though. -Mike-
