This is a Victorian era pocket watch fob pendant, fashioned from a copper British farthing coin minted in 1897. The pendant has a claw set cabochon ruby. In 1897, the diamond jubilee of the British Queen Victoria was celebrated. I am not absolutely sure, but this pendant may have been a commemorative piece.

Ken, the British likes to add precious stones to fobs/pendants. I posted a 1953 QE ll fob which has 2 small similar stones on the crown :

Since QV's husband , prince Albert's death in 1861, she toned down on wearing jewelry hence the stone on your fob is not set as part of her jewelry...... I think!
