I have hundreds of bottles of vintage perfume that my late-mother and I collected since the late 1960's, but this one is my favorite.
Not only is it a towering 8" tall, I have not been able to find another single reference about this size bottle of Essence Rare by Houbigant ANYWHERE on the Internet except for a person that is selling a 1977 magazine advertisement with the 3 bottle sizes shown in the ad. That is the only other picture of this bottle that I have found. I just love it. And mom loved it too. It was her favorite.
I'd love to suggest that a category for fragrances be created. Thousands of people collect vintage fragrances in addition to collecting the fragrance bottles. I'm one ;)

I agree ;). It is stunning - and usually commands the attention of my vanity fragrance display. The only marking on the bottle is ER molded into the top of the cap and a raised "HOUBIGANT" within the glass on the bottom next to a number "6 with a circle around it". I've yet to find out what the circled-six indicates. Hopefully I'll find out.
Essence Rare is my favorite scent; I wore this fragrance back in the mid-1970's. Such a sad decision when it was discontinued. I've had several ladies stop me in restaurants and asked what I was wearing because the love it.
