I picked this old JC Penney riding mower when I bought an old John Deer tractor for a friend of mine.
It had been sitting in the back of a garage for many years.
I just thought it looked cool. I don't no what I'm going to do with it. I may make a racer out of it or a puller. Maybe sell it down the road.
Look at it it looks fast sitting still.
Runs very well. Maybe I'll just pull a cart around with it.
I did got the mower deck with it bit it has some soft spots that will need fixed before using it agian.
    Gope you all like it.

Love it! Have the same one! $75 paid, sat covered outside many years, got it running, $30 ten new bearings, $45 new HD 48" belt, runs as new. Sharpened original blades that were as new just rusted. Last used Monday this week. Will post pictures later. Funny how our 607cc engine is only rated @8HP when the new 21HP motors are only 540cc. Cheers!

you don't see those too often, any chance that you can get ahold of a mower deck?

I think these were made by MTD (Murray Tool & Die) they made many 'private lable' mowers..

Hello. I recently bought a mower that looks identical to yours. Paid $100 for it and it runs and works perfectly. Anyway, recently when I was cutting, my steering got really choppy and loose, I stopped and checked under the hood to find that at the base of the steering column where it bolts down had become "torn." It looks like some sort of rag or Jean material, maybe even Kevlar or something, who knows, point is I don't know what this part is or what it's called to replace it. Can you assist me on this matter? Greatly appreciated. I live in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. If you open your hood, it's right at the base of your steering column, held there with four bolts in a cross pattern. Thanks.

Own the same mower. We bought it from the original 96 year old owner for $150.I was told by my daughter and nephew to talk him down because it was so old. When I told him what my daughter and nephew said , he replied "I'm 96 yr's old..and I'm doing just fine.Mower runs as good or better than me ." The tractor is identical to the posted yellow riding lawn mower , looks very good , and has been excellantly maintained. A very good find. I mowed our lawn in the farthest back that was gone to seed , no problem at all cutting it , can't wait to drive it again.
In response to Erick in Pittsburge about the steering thing , my manual doesn't show any cloth like thing for steering...only steel washers and nuts, steering column bearing. Sorry I couldn't help any more. E-mail me at brad.ewers37@gmail if you have any more questions , I have a manual.

I have a similar tractor but it had a 44" deck (not on it now) and a 399cc 11hp engine with 5speed tranny. Needs some TLC but I love it! Just bought it to use as a yard dog on my 1/2 acre but think I might do a mod restore. I'll post a picture tomorrow. Ideas on age? questions? answers? Bcahill@woh.rr.com Tx Bob!
