This small basket 8 x 6 x 2" had a tag on it saying that it was acquired by an individual who hunted and fished in NW Canada and Alaska. I acquired it from the estate of a broad collector of Native arts. He had art from lots of Plains and Southwestern tribes, but some things from NW Canada.

Most of his baskets seemed to be Southwestern yet his reference tag mentioned the NW. I found a similar face in a Inuit woven mask but no other reference points.

Have you seen anything like this..any ideas?

    thanks

It's a coiled yucca basket, from southern Arizona, made by a Papago (now called Tohono O'odham) basketmaker. I've never seen one exactly like this before, but it's definitely Papago!
