These 4 clocks are part of my collection and are all magnificent. These are all large clocks, 2 being well over 3' tall. You can see a gorgeous heavily carved wall trumpeter (blower) clock made by Gordian Hettich & Sohne, Ca 1880.

A fantastic wall cuckoo clock with a rare theme, Hares at the bottom, Made by Phillip Haas, & Sohne Ca 1870.

Another stellar wall cuckoo by GHS Ca 1875, with a full relief carved Elk on top, in mid bugle. This clock is about 40" tall.

And last, a cuckoo clock made by Jakob Bauerle, Ca 1870 with a pair of full carved pheasants on top, at nearly 44" tall. A testament to the unbelievable skill of the Black forest carvers and the days of antiquity.

Thanks! and to your question: No, but this is a common thought.
The Black forest is a region in southern Germany. Like our "deep south". Its very remote, and they used mostly common woods like Oak, Walnut and pine. In later clocks, you will see them carved in a native tree called linden, and on rare occasion a fruit-wood, like lime or apple.
    Thanks for looking!
