I would love to have some information on this item,I was told it's a very old drum,maybe 17th century,has real animal skin scretched across top,look like it was repaired over the years,,I guess you hold it by the end,but don't know,I got it from a friend who owned a home of a lady who traveled in Africa,even married to a high ranking African,when she passed,she had the house clean,asked me if I wanted any of the items before she trashed them,that was about 15 years ago.
