Hi, can anyone help me date this elephant stand. It is heavy at 5lbs & it measures 7" in height and 9" long. There is a hole on the back side of the base below the tail and on the stand above the tail. When I look at in the loupe there are lots of iron deposits and it is pretty much all crazed (not with uniformity). There are two marks that are both the same caddy corner to each other on the base (which is solid). Thanks in advance for any help.
P.S. I forgot to add that this is porcelain the bottom was all white at one time.

I believe its Japanese. I think the second character says Nippon, which means Japan. You could look at gotheborg.com for more marks for comparison, although most are on porcelain, not earthenware like yours

Oops, I guess there’s a very similar character in Chinese too, so I don’t know!

lol Thanks for the effort it is appreciated. Believe it or not it is porcelain the bottom is just brown from use. lt is white on the bottom where some dirt rubbed off and there is a tiny pottery chip that shows it is white underneath so it might be a Chinese mark.
