This is a punched wool rug. The wool is not woven but punched together to create an interesting rough surface and natural edges. It was produced, as well as embroidered with peacocks and vines, somewhere in the middle east. As a young girl, my mother chose this rug to go with her pink room and birdseye maple bedroom set. Can anyone help me to find out more about its manufacture and is there a name for this type of work?
