The fede ring traditionally has the motif of two right hands, one female and the other male, clasped together or often holding a heart between them. The word ‘fede’ comes from the Italian 'mani in fede' which means 'hands in faith'. The fede ring dates back through antiquity and was popular during the Renaissance when it was given as a symbol of betrothal. It was popular throughout all the Middle Ages across all of Europe as a symbol of love and has continued to be worn in different forms to this day. Fede rings would very often be inscribed, usually in Latin or the local language. Their popularity ceased by the end of the 19th century.
I'm glad to show you this Gold not marked but tested at 18 ct.(K) Fede Handshake Friendship Ring. In very good used condition.
It is special that is worn on the one hand a signet ring.
Weighs approximately 3/3.5 grams. USA Size 7 1/2.

I completely thought it was a claddagh ring at first. Didn't know this style went beyond Ireland. Really popular now in the USA. Think this is really interesting.

ozmarty thanks for loving and your comment with useful link. My idea this is not a Scottish claddagh ring because they are mostly with a heart, this is not. But I don't know for sure of course.
I gave my wife an antique one without heart for our betrothal . made in Australia by a maker with Irish liniage.

Difficult to date without some sort of makers / hallmarks marks .
But the detective in me can make a few wild assumptions .....
1. It is cast and not worker up by hand.( no pun meant!) can see this by looking at the inside where rough texture and hollow show this .
2.The shank is not warn... so either the ring has not been worn often or has no gret age .
" A ring shank is the body of a ring. The term is most often used in association with the erosion or wear that takes place on the lower portion of the ring. Jewelers will usually inspect the “shank” of your ring to be sure that it is not wearing too thin. Wear on a ring shank is most often caused by contact with hard surfaces or the constant erosion that takes place when a ring is worn against another ring."
MY guess is the ring is probably 20th Century and has not been worn often perhaps put away as a keepsake.
I like how the clasped hands have a heart shape in themselves.
oops !! under 1. above meant to add so this shows mass production, or at lest many produced . Probable used the lost wax method .
