Warren Galle introduced some of the finest Schliersee art nouveau glasses here. The production of this Bavarian glass works and its sister Regenhütte is not as popular as many of the Bohemian manufacturers, but worth to discover. Still the best reference is Christiane Sellner's book on Art Nouveau Glass from Bavaria (Gläserner Jugendstil aus Bayern), a book 22 years old!
Rare and relatively unknown are vases and the like designed with threads. Sellner refers to two examples from the Passau collection, the only pieces on display I am aware of.
I was happy to acquire my first Schliersee vase with combed decoration about five years ago (left images). The decor is similar to both examples in Passau and the shape is documented with number 289. The vase was blown in a pre-blow mold to achieve the ripped surface and is made of clear glass above a layer of opal white glass with colorful threads expended into the clear glass layer. Height: 14 cm (5 5/8 in).
I got excited to find a second example of this type of Schliersee vases on eBay (right images). Although this shape is not to find among the Schliersee line drawings published by Sellner, the decor speaks for itself. Height: 21.5 cm (8 1/2 in). I would date both pieces to about 1900-1906.
