Here is a colt belt buckle I bought from an old man at flea market years ago.He said the buckle was left in in old cabin in wood no roads going to it.He said he thought it was from the g-men years stayed in this cabin they were trying to bust moonshiners in the hills of NC.

It looks like a FANTASY buckle-- one of many different styles made in the 1960s to decieve collectors.
Other examples are Lincoln related, Wells Fargo, etc...
Most have bogus Tiffany markings on the back.
I'll see if I can find a reference site-- I cannot find the link now.

I dont think you are right On the back it has a silver mark and says silver also has a serial no# They would never do that.Sometimes its better to have your proof before you say.I have seen One once before for 200.If I see proof then I will believe you.Until then It is very real.Thanks toyman

What is the serial number on it?
It says state jewlry silver smith jewelry pated no# 104,o12 and serial no# is 82,010 also says made in england Thanks for all your info John

Check the book.
Odd things with buckle:
- It resembles many other bogus buckles
- Front states "United States Property"-- but it was made in England
- Serial no 82,010-- if these are REAL, does that number make sense?
- If it was for G-men why make 80,000 (current FBI is less than half that #)
- Patent no 104,012 is for an 1870 "Improvement in Fire Hydrants"

Here is a "Bogus Buckle" with the same patent info as yours:
"My buckle of this type is marked "Jubillee 1887" with a portrait of Queen Victoria on the front left corner. The back is marked "Official Souvenier 1892" and "Bay State Jewelry and Silversmiths Co." plus "Made in England" and "Pat. No. 104,012" and "serial no. 32,010". The "fold over" portion of the buckle loop is marked inside "Warrented - Finest Minted Brass" below an American style Eagle with it's wings spread. "
Your particular example is not photographed for the site-- but it fits the same template.

I'd agree with valuation of these in the $10-$20 range.

Well you still have not showed me one like mine .And why are they asking so much for that other buckle? and they say its real?And the story I told you was told to me.Nobody was sure. Only that this buckle was in an old cabin.I bought this buckle with another old coyboy buckle from same old guy.Thanks for your help.and time.

I have given you links to numerous buckles with the EXACT markings as yours-- same maker, same patent numbers, same serial numbers.
The maker did not make any real buckles-- they made FANTASY buckles in the 60s and 70s.
The links also highlite that those EXACT MARKINGS are on KNOWN FANTASY buckles.
The Titanic buckle has the same markings as yours. IT IS A FANTASY as well. The seller was duped and believes it is orginal. He has had NO BUYERS after numerous listings, because it is not real.

I still like my buckle it does say united states property on the front with a colt machine gun is that cool.Why did our goverment let them put our name on buckle plus colt name too?Also just want to tell you I seen same buckle a while back sell for 200. So I dont know what else to say I paid 5 dollars for this buckle.Remember It still has all the right marks on it.Thanks john
Careful guys. Counterfeits are not the same as replicas. A replica can be worth as much as 50% of the original's worth.
No counterfeiting operation is going to put out a piece, without trying to make it look like the original. Sometimes it takes a collector to determine the difference. In this particular case, it appears to be a replica, but take it to a collector. Don't try to get, or give, a haircut over the phone.
scottvez, do you have a photo of the original? If not, you could be wrong.
It is a FANTASY buckle-- no original ever existed.
By the way Toyman, the belt buckle on ebay has had the back severely altered, and they still want $40
what they want on ebay and get is another story. people put some crazy prices on ebay for their items
I've got a buckle that was given to me by my grandfather. I'm never going to part with it, but I was curious if it was worth anything. My buckle has the *exact* same mark on the back. Same Pat No., Same Serial No. My front is different (stage coach scene) but the same numbers. Fantasy or not, I like the buckle and will continue to cherish it.

Most collectors don't place any value on these FANTASY buckles. They usually sell for less than $20 on ebay. They have become a "thorn in the side" for most collectors since they seem to fool many new collectors.

I just wanted to add some research I did on the subject. The serial number is actually a trademark serial number given to Bay State Jewlery in 1914. You can look it up in the 1915 Patent Office book on google books "Official Gazette of the United States Patent Office, Volume 213". Also, the Patent Number was also located in the book and it was given to Bay State. So Scotty, you need to check more closely before you go around as an expert.
