Salvation Army seems to be getting a few more interesting things lately. Add to that the fact that Christi has been putting things aside for me that I might be interested in so they don't get sold before I get there. Is that customer service or what....lol ! Today she had these although there was a fourth one she missed which was even smaller, but it was gone. I was more than happy about getting the large pair. The little one was a bonus. The larger 8 1/2" vases are a mirror image pair. Same pagoda, mountain, and sailboat design on both. They have a small incised character on the side which I assume is a signature or maybe a title. The little 5" vase is not signed but looks like it might have had a label on the bottom. The bottom of the larger vases are smooth and blank. I don't think they're real old, just a bit dirty, but for a few bucks each they were very nice. -Mike-

Hi Mike, they are indeed modern, but the art form, chokin, dates to 1300. The designs were etched on pierced copper plates and layered with nearly pure gold and silver. The plates were then assembled with leather or silk to form samurai armor.
There are also small modern collector's plates which use this art form.
    Best regards, Jim

The black vases are 1950 Okinawa, because the bottom is smooth
