Here is my bakelite necklaces and bangles collection. They're not very original (I've seen amazing carved bakelite bangles on Collectors Weekly), but I like their candy colors. One of my favrorites is the Pierrot bangle as well as the Mah-Jong bracelet.

    Thank you for the compliment!

I have around 90 bakelite bangles and my favourites are plain domed designs! Nothing wrong with that :) I have a Pierrot piece also, I love seeing the different versions.

Betty these are gorgeous! I don't have many over 25mm - only 6 I think. Yours are great. Love the Pierrot and mahjong too.

Vmode - I counted 30 bakelite spacer bracelets 6mm plus and 55 bangles from 12 to 25mm. I need to catch up to you! Plus this doesn't take into account my "mistakes" - around 30 or so Lucite examples - really pretty ones I love them. I didn't spend too much and they have their charm. Also, thanks for posting your beads. Most of mine are from broken necklaces in bags waiting to be restrung.

Sorry everyone. I needed to brag. Feeling a little sorry for myself that I'm not going out tonight.

Whoa I love the pierrot piece!
I think I only have about thirty or so bangles and about 15 necklaces in bakelite. All plain and simple bangles and one lucky polka dot find. I m still trying to find more though!

    Thank you! :)
To Newtimes: As you said in one of your comments (about your wonderful polka dot bangle), collecting bakelite is not that popular in Belgium as well as in the rest of Europe actually (I'm French). So it feels great to have comments and 'loves' from people sharing the same (good ;) tastes...
By the way, 30 bangles and 15 necklace is not bad!

The Pierrot bangle looks fascinating from what I can see. I used to have a friend who had a big store in Toronto's Harbourfront. When I did the antique shows he would come by my table to store all his finds. He was a genius at picking this stuff up in the western provinces of Canada & then selling at his ontario or NY store. I wish I knew more of these to start a small collection. I guess there may be a lot of fakes out there also, do you know ?

    Thanks Phil!
Bakelite is actually not very difficult to recognize with a little experience, but it's easier to get real bakelite when you have to possibility to handle it (a simple picture can be misleading). There aren't so many fakes (except for a few modern copycats made in Asia), but some contemporary plastics may have the same aspect (although most of them are pretty different to the touch). Bakelite is not that popular in Europe so forgery is not widespread either. It may be different in America...
Here is an interesting page about the subject:
