It's a very beautiful Art Nouveau or Jugendstil cigarette holder AND ashtray all in one!!! :) So far I had only seen them separated ias sets, but never as one item. It makes me think of German Jugendstil...

Thanks I'll look Jugendstil's ashtray pieces

      ??????

I was thinking it might be an 8Old Soap Dish holder* that went on the Wall......but that could well be wrong. I am in left field too sometimes....LOL

Well, I have seen cigarette cases or matchboxes holders looking like the tall part at the back (you can see it has two walls, and the box was held in between them) and if you look at the first pic it has the two "how-do-you-call-in-English-the-places-where-the-cigarettes-rest"s ? at the foreground...

Follow this link to see those matchbox holders:
      https://www.google.es/search?q=matchbox+holder+jugendstil&client=firefox-a&hs=2hD&rls=org.mozilla:es-ES:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=75VBU-P1BuLP0AXU-oGQCg&ved=0CDQQsAQ&biw=1787&bih=861&dpr=0.9

And, by the way, Sue, this one was made by the very same maker who did yours:

It was just what it reminded me of. You look correct!
    6. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 10 years ago
But you could use it as a soap dish if you want! ;)

Hi Sue, I realize you posted this many years ago and am unsure if this message will reach you but I have this same ashtray. I wanted to know if you were ever able to find more information on it & if you have an idea of its value? This is the only link online I can find of this same item. Thanks in advance for any info you can share. :) -Sam

Hi,yes at the time I posted,I was told it's called Art Nouveau Jugendstil ash tray and cigarette holder combined. At that time it wasn't worth much.I haven't looked it up lately,it's been in my attic

Ash tray. Holder is for a box of matches as austro posted.
