own it 40 years bought it from a customer who was liquidating there assets.paid $550.

I have searched internet, Schafer seems to be an unknown in the silver world
It's really a very unique piece and after a good polishing (needs one) it's
quite spectacular the side grapes are a chore to clean

    Shafer Co. of Washington, DC from that time period. He sold silver from 1880-1938 period.

    Hard to tell without a picture of the marks, but I think your "A" is really a gothic "G" making this a mixed metal piece by Gorham. If so, "O" would be the date letter for 1882. The name Schafer is simply a monogram, and not a silversmith.
