A large Kamei vase that my research suggests is from the 80s or 90s.
There has been a lot of work put into this vase but the result hasn't matched effort in my opinion. Not my favorite by a long way but I think the decor is probably relevant to the taste(less) of the time it was made!
Multiple casing starting with a pink interior, a white layer, another pink, gold inclusions in the final clear casing. I am assuming the white glass has been included to give the pink intensity. The vase appears to have been moulded then hot worked. It's a bit off because the gold has been added in swirls but the swirls in the clear glass are not matched to them.
Sorta OK but not Kamei's best piece! However in my efforts to champion Japanese glass and learn about it I am still happy keeping this one.
Typical Kamei pontil with ground and concave base.
Large at 250mm and quite heavy 2050mg.
Partial Kamei Glass sticker on the front, Kamei Glass Osaka No. 1005 sticker to the base.
