    Csouza9141…
    (1 item)

I recently acquired this piece at an estate sale, while I know it is a Davenport Writing Desk I was wondering if anyone could possibly date and or whom and where may have been manufactured the desk. It is in decent shape I have found one secret compartment so far. I will take some time later this week and tear into the workings of the desk and see what else if anything I can fine. The key is obviously missing, would anyone know if a place I could begin to look for a replacement.

Remove the lock and take it to any antique mall. The two around here have big boxes of old keys. They laughed at me and said "knock yourself out" I took less then ten minutes to find two keys for each of the three locks I walked in with. They were stunned. Not hard when you figure the size correctly.

      Good luck,

Open the small front drawers and feel around foe a wooden latch; it may be trigger-shaped. Pull it or move it around a bit.. It may open a section of smaller drawers and pideon holes. The whole piece rises from the back top ot the desk.

In almost all the furniture I have made, I have a secret compartment. A common way, is to make a false back in a drawer with a trigger to release the whole drawer. I made the desk that I sit at now typing has an overhead door that when I push a fake wooded peg, my Browning drops out in front of me. The hollow space milled out under the counter, presently holds 2 boxes of ammo, 2 lbs. of powder, a powder flask, extra magazine for the Browning, some Hydo-loc 9 m/m's & not sure what else! I've stored a Sten gun with 2 extra 32 round mags & 4 boxes of ammo there before with plenty of extra space! Jacky saw me drop it open & it took an hour for her to figure out how to open it. That's a long time for a chick! You just never know what's hidden! I don't think an intensive search could find what I just described!
