This little fellow bears the marks for Meyle & Mayer.
Stamped "Depose", "sterling" and the Mayle & Mayer maker's mark of a dragonfly, 22cm steel pin, 4cm large, 3cm long.
Had it for a loong time without notifying the dragonfly stamp at the very bottom of the abdomen
When I bought it, there was a second one, pin attach broken, which I
don't bought ... Bitterly regret, Sight...

This is a lovely, lovely bee. You can see the fantastic quality from underneath. I would so happily have him in my collection. He's also pictured in the Jugendstil-Schmuck book in a fantastic red, blue & yellow combo. Try not to feel too bad about overlooking the other one, he's a real treasure.

Just saw this dragonfly, 161285175655 item
Don't you think it is a shame to clean as much an remove all the patina?

Some collectors go ga-ga over insect pins, I really like the detailed body, and the enamelled wings.
Patina is really a personal taste. It depends if you plan to keep it and wear it, or sell it.
I you wish to wear it, my approach is a gentle clean with a bit of soapy water and a toothbrush, then gentle drying, and finally a bit of buffing with a jeweler's cloth. This way I know it's clean, still has most of the patina, but also shows that it's an antique sterling silver and gilt metal piece.

Totally agree with you idcloisonne! But be careful not to wash paste or rhinestone jewellery (1920 silver costume jewelry) wich is not open back !
Thanks to you, Virginia.vintage and MrsWarren for your loves and warm comments :-)

You are right kyratango, after I wrote my comment, thought, toothbrush? might be too harsh for those delicate wings.
I have also learned about rhinestones jewelry and dead rhinostones due to being wet.
