I picked up this little painting for $4 at a second-hand store in my neighborhood. i liked the color and it has good pastiche and reasonable brushwork. i like the raven too! it is signed Leo Roon '64. i looked him up and there is a record of another one of his pieces being in a museum on long island. Leo Roon [1893-1983] was a chemical engineer who invented latex paint and made millions. he gave away over 100 million dollars in his life mostly as awards and scholarships but also in endowments to many different schools. he was from new york, but moved to La Jolla in the 1940s or 50s, where he died. apparently, he rented the entire floor of a very fancy hotel there.

i really like this painting - more than i thought when i first saw it. i wish i could find out more about Leo Roon. For being one of the wealthiest people in America, there isn't a whole lot about him out there. at least i haven't found it yet.
