A reallly interesting wall hanging. I guess my grandparents thought so because they kept it. It measures about 36 inches tall by 28 inches wide. It consists of 6 pages. The three I chose to show are the 1918 Global Heads of State, American/European Pictorial Views, and the War Map of Europe. The others are Commercial America, Census Gazetteer of California, and the Rural Map of Nevada. I don't know the production history or current value. If someone can help with this, I would be most grateful!

AR8Jason, you must have some info on these guys?
They are all dead. Apparently it was bad luck to appear on this chart. ;-{)
Wilson is of course the one on the left. All the others are research-able, and of but a little interest. If you were researching post WWI World it would be handy to have them in one place.
The war map of course was so veterans that made it back could tell their role in the "War to End all Wars" or as it was also known, "The Great War."
For families that did not return, it gave them some idea and maybe a little comfort to see where their loved one died.
World maps prior to WWII was largely for sea captains, because they were the world transports of their day. People immigrated and knew two places, back in the old country and where they lived then. They did not travel much and kept up with the gossip down the street. WWI turned a portion of our nation to world travelers. Being able to show where they went was important to them. They had seen "the world" and returned to tell about it.
Ocean liners were the main stay of the world transportation industry, and trains on the land.
In WWII, on December 7th, 1941, more maps and atlases were dug out at the same time likely than any other time in history before, and maybe since. Americans did not know where Pearl Harbor was.
US Citizens interest in the World layout had been sparked at the Spanish American War, 1898 (short war) and then at WWI. The world map and world leaders as well as the photos of places would have been of great interest then making these marketable.
WHAT ELSE ???
AR8Jason, again I thank you for a wonderful synopsis of the time period--filling in the details and making the chart more meaningful for me. I am so glad you are willing to help.
