Some of these objects I have owned for decades, one I just bought. None more expensive than about $100. All I enjoy immensely. Each an opportunity to not just have something of beauty but an opportunity to learn about other cultures as well.

Picture #1: This is a 3.75H by 4.00W "yunomi" in a Korean celadon glaze. It is a contemporary piece by Chicago ceramist Jay Strommen. This is his photograph. A Japanese yunomi is a taller than wider vessel used for daily drinking of tea. If the vessel is wider than taller and used in the ceremonial Japanese Tea Ceremony to drink strong green tea (matcha), it is called a "chawan". The object in the background is a whisk used to stir the tea and is called a "chasen". You can find chawans for sale from about $25 to $10,000+. My knowledge of this subject is very rudimentary - so please forgive errors and correct / add to this post.

Picture #2: In the background is a flat 5 inch tall by 7 inch wide bottle vase that exemplifies the use of space - open areas in Oriental art. In the foreground are three so called "Burmese Opium Weights" in the form of Chinthe lions.

Picture #3: A 6 inch tall by 4.5 inch wide, square earthenware "jar" with a nude figure holding a bird on the front and another nude female figure planting a flower on the back. This has the artist's "VS" chop mark and was purchased from Hawaii.

Please click on the individual photos to see each in more detail.
