I know the provenance of this cake stand, but I am clueless about what to call it. I simply used a layman description of the item without a true knowledge of WHAT to call it. This cake stand was a weeding gift to my wife's Grand Mother in 1939 and was, purportedly, purchased at Tiffany & Co. at their 5th Avenue store. Beyond that, I have no way of figuring it out. I called Tiffany, but they said they stopped making stained glass cake stands in the mid-1940's and they did not have any information since then. If there are any member in this forum who can provide information, I would be most grateful...even if the information is just WHAT TO CALL IT!
As the trite expression goes, they don't make them like they used too. This cake stand is VERY HEAVY glass...the dome weighs about 8 pounds by itself! Thank you.

the cake stand and dome are the Windsor pattern by Federal Glass, and was first produced in early 1970s. The pattern was also reproduced by Indiana Glass in the 1980s. The glass tiles were added as an aftermarket embellishment, possibly hobbyist. Unfortunately provenance on inherited items can often become confused over time.

Thank you for your quick response. I'm glad the origin of this item is now defined; I was somewhat skeptical surrounding the whole Tiffany origins.

you're welcome : ) there is one 'artist' making these with glass tiles and porcelain fragments who calls them "Cottage Shabby Chic". I think this is one of those cake stand with dome combinations that could also double as a punch bowl; tho' that may be a bit compromised with the embellishments.
