This is a most likely a Chinese Egg Shaped Paperweight. Seems very well made. Maybe from around the 1970's era. Bottom is not polished but a rough texture.

    Still a pretty item!!

I would not have picked this as Chinese but I don't know paperweights at all really....just a passing acquaintance when we meet at the shops or online....

@racer4four - the base usually gives them away, but some are real striking quality. I was advised this was Chinese by a PW collector, so I will have to go with that, as I thought maybe it was something different toooo

I just came across your paperweight posting. I own a paperweight that looks almost identical to yours. It was given to me by my girlfriend. She told me that she got it in late 1970 in Czechoslovakia. When she gave it to me, it used to have a sticker "Made in Czechoslovakia". Because of dusting etc. the sticker no longer exists.
I tried to post a picture of my paperweight into this comment, but the program will not let me do it.
      Keep on collecting!
