As a whim I decided to cruise through the Goodwill this morning. And this fantastic find for $8.00 made it well worth the trip. This wonderfully carved ivory piece portrays a lioness & two cubs standing on a mound. But to me, the real beauty of ivory is the pattern that is in the ivory itself (rings like a tree). I can definitely say I found treasure today! =)

That is sure a good find. I just got a lead on ocean front property in Nebraska and i can let you in on the deal.
LoL fhrjr2, but seriously. I did really get this piece of ivory at the Goodwill for only $8. I also took it to a jeweler for authentication. The jeweler asked if I'd sell for a five figure amount which made me uncomfortable, for I'm not a seller of my collection. Many many thanks, I always enjoy your visit fhrjr2! =)

LoL loveyardsales, low five figures. Elephant ivory is $900-$1800 an ounce, this sculpture is almost 8 pounds. 16 0unces to 1 pound. Besides the point, I don't sell my stuff, I really really really love owning my things. Many many thanks for the love & giggles! =)
I have several ivory netsukes but they don't weight like that. I will post one day.
