I have a collection of Indian items and this is one of them. I have no information about it but came from my dad who is from IL. The war club is wrapped in deer skin, and the beads seem to be made out of shell. I am not sure what the shaft is made of because it is covered in deerskin. Any information on this would be appreciated.
That is one fantastic piece & don't think we are giving the appreciation it deserves. It was "crash-time" last nite when I caught this & glad I found it today. Maybe our group just doesn't appreciate the rarity of such native Amer. Indian artifacts, but I do. Truly an item to be proud to own. I would love to see it in person. You just don't find these things anymore & I'm surprised at the lack of interest.
Thank you so much for your comments. I too love this piece and is a great part of history. I have three other pieces, and would be more than happy to send pictures. They all seem to be from the same tribe. I am looking to get them authenticated and appraised but have no idea where or who to take them to. I live in Missouri, and would be willing to travel a reasonable distance to get this done. Any suggestions?
Don't think you would want to come to the Netherlands Antilles just to watch me drool on your artifacts. When growing up, our house-keeper & nanny was a part Creek who was saved by a doctor by adopting her from being forcibly moved to OK. She told me some of her Indian experiences, which I will skip for now. One thing that really stuck in my mind was her telling me about what her grandfather told her about the Civil War. (Yes, I'm that old now). He had enlisted in the Confederate Army, deserted after a battle or 2 & told her, "I have seen how the white man kills, -- and they call us savages!".
