This smile is too cute, but I just don't know much about him. I noticed there's that crazed cracking in the glaze which I've read could suggest that he's a ceramic reproduction. I can definitely tell his body isn't original, his thread is too new. He has Germany and the number 5 stamped on the back of his neck along with a few artist ticks. He's such a cutie though and I thought maybe somebody on here could give me an idea of his history.

He is not a Antique China doll , he was made in a ceramic class by a person that was supplied the blank head and painted it . They would fire it for you and sell you limbs. you made body and dressed it . This started as early as late 1950's and still making them in classes today . The crackling of finish NEVER occured on China antique dolls. The reason he is marked Germany is because the Mold he was made from was from a antique original mold that already was impressed Germany . The person that made yur doll by law is to sign it and date it but many were never signed . So He is a Reproduction of a German doll. Makes for a decoration but has little value as a collectible doll . Some of the reproductions crackled sooner than other but I would guess he about 10- 20 years old there about .

Thank you so much! That did help a lot and makes me wonder if a family member didn't make him in class. Makes him much more important to me personally. I'll probably keep him as a family treasure for generations to come.

Your very welcome :-) Chances are a family member made it , in that case he is priceless !!
