    Lisa-light…
    (30 items)

This is more showing than telling. This candlestick is of opal glass and is painted with black details on the foot and candle holder and a bright colourful bird, perhaps a Phoenix? There is an oval mark on the bottom that I have included in the images. I am not at all feeling daring on this one so I am looking for any ideas you may have in terms of what this mark may mean if indeed it means anything specific to a particular maker. I hope the images will be useful. Please do let me know if you have any questions.
    Sincerely,
    Lisa

Lisa, that is the oval mark that was used by Carl Hosch. See this article:

Thank you so much! Carl Hosch. I love the landscape painting on the red vase you used in your article. Does the painting on my candlestick live up to the quality of those you have seen?
      Sincerely,
      Lisa

Lisa, it does - if you look at the last photo in the link to my Hosch article above - second vase from the left also has long-tailed birds (swallows?) painted on it. Different kind of bird, but a similar motif.

Thank you! They are quite similar. The catalogue pages suggest the subject matter but I don't find that the quality of the actual painting comes through. Of course I do have some problems with my eyes so that was why I was asking if you thought the quality of the art was as good as it is on your lovely landscape example. Thank you for pointing out the swallows. I think that was very useful.
      Sincerely,
      Lisa

Oh boy. I just went to ebay and looked at the candlestick. What a state it is in. I wonder what on earth was used to ''clean'' it? It is really great to know that there is a variant that has been drilled for prism pins, isn't it? Thank you so much for pointing that out to me. I really appreciate the guidance.
      Sincerely,
      Lisa
