I would like to know about my watch from my great grandfather . Any help would be greatly appreciated. It still works and was just given to me!

Need to see a picture of the movement. The back should unscrew counter-clockwise. If the pictures isn't possible, or clear, please let us know everything written on it including the serial number.
Thanks for your reply. I can't get the back plate off but will try when my husband get back. There are no numbers on the watch at all. It appears gold

Super nice railroad grade Hamilton! The 940s were real workhorses. Railroad guys loved them... Love the fleur-de-lis hands. Now, that watch is lever set so don't pull on the winding stem to try and set it... lol... You'll need to unscrew the front of the case- the glass part-and inside you'll see a small lever sticking out at about the 2:00 position. Hook it with your fingernail and pull it out then turn the stem to set the time...

The watch was finished by Hamilton on 2-15-1911 and was sold on 3-1-1911 to a Mr. Albert Homan. The last name is difficult to read so may not be 100% correct.
The Hamilton grade 940 was made from 1898 to 1928, with movements being offered in the Hamilton catalogues until the early 1930's.
A total of 209,498 were produced.
They are a very reliable, railroad Grade watch.

I really really appreciate the information! My great Grandfather's name was Oliver Horner. He was born in 1860 and was a farmer and inventor! My dad who is 95 will be tickled to learn of the history.
