Mild, green Fairy liquid. Haven’t heard that name in a while. I think the equivalent in the US is Palmolive.
My sister lived near Taunton for 30+ years, and she and her hubby loved the local ciders, and a type known as scrumpy. For some reason, in the USA, cider is a non-alcoholic freshly pressed apple juice, or you have to ask for “hard cider". When my daughter was about 10 yrs old, and we went to visit Somerset, and were at a restaurant for dinner, she ordered a cider with her meal. Everyone laughed, including the waitress, But my poor daughter had no idea why, and was very embarrassed!
I know that Wade of Burslem, Staffordshire used red mark in the 1950’s but I’m guessing that they merged, or were bought over by the company with the initials PDM, but couldn’t find the actual name, still working on it!

Hi marya thats a great story!!
Yes I love the scrumpy too, they call the none alcoholic version apple juice or even an old name that I havnt heard for years is cydrax!
I live in Devon about 30 miles from taunton so loads of farm shops , also we can get palmolive washing up !!
Right ! These mugs are made by wade in 1980~87 some with pattern on handles like these some not also some with a pattern around the inside rim, they also do a miniature version at 2" high, the picture is called "Autumn Gold Cider Press" and in my 3rd edition wade charlton book of liquor containers it says they were once worth £50. Each $95. Us.
PDM meaning - point of sale- design-marketing from 1969..
many thanx for your info & comments .. sd:-)

Are you on the coast? Now I fancy a Devon cream tea! Would have to make it myself,
though it would be hard to find Devon cream here in the US.

Hi maryh , yes in Exmouth , Devon .. you can google Exmouth seafront webcam for live view and opperate the camera yourself to point at different views.. funny really as someone in Australia was on the webcam and phoned the uk police cos they saw someone trying to break into the octagon icecream parlour right opposite !!made all the papers..
and dont start me on cream teas :-))) I had one just the other day , it was huge with devon clotted cream & strawberry jam! Mmmmmmm

I want scrumpy and Devonshire tea now! Probably not together.

I like two handle things - doesn't matter where your headspace is you can find a handle and have more scrumpy!!

Scrumpy & a Devon cream tea sounds ok to me!!
Might curdle a bit though !!
Think id leave an hour between the two !! :-) lol

Not a cider lover but love cream teas, especially with the clotted cream, and the jam has to be strawberry. Now I’m going to have to make some plain scones and get some double (whipping) cream to mimic the cream tea, the best way I can.

I will check out the webcam in Exmouth. We usually went to Weymouth, Newquay or Lyme Regis when my sister lived in Somerset
    11. maryh1956 maryh1956, 10 years ago
Of course the webcam would be more interesting at a time other than 3.30am!
    12. surfdub66 surfdub66, 10 years ago
Love newquay ,surfing , the surf clothes , beaches and of course the cornish pasties ... not to mention the cornish cream teas .. !!!! Which aparently is the same as a devon cream tea but they put the jam on first while in devon the cream first ?? People say it doesnt make a difference but ive tried both and it does tast different .. both ways lovvvvvvely !!
yes 330 am you wont see too much !! Take a peek around 9am u.s time.. sd
    13. maryh1956 maryh1956, 10 years ago
LOL, I always put the jam on first! Will take another peek at the webcams in daylight. My sister has her caravan at Weymouth this week I should tell her to take a day trip to Exmouth so I can see her strolling down the promenade!
