This is beautiful !! Cadmium ?! I'm a little ashamed to admit ( As the glowy guy) I thought this color was from magnesium in the glass but you are correct it is cadmium !

Hi idcloisonne, do you mean the blog "Bohemian Glass Collector" or "Bohemian Glass" a Prague blog? I couldn't find the right one, I think. Thanks! :)

idcloisonne, that one in the picture in BGC, is a Kralik Oil Spot and some glass makers would copy the shape and change the finish of glass...textured and or smooth. I have a Carl Goldberg and a Kralik in that same shape...including this Welz. It was a very popular shape back then. I have one Kralik that I have already posted.

Did Welz do inkwells? That question has not been answered yet....... Certainly can not say they did not..... but can not say they did either.....

      "Welz is an INVENTION."

Seriously?? You are still going to sing that seriously sad old worn out song?

There are examples of known Welz production literature which now document attributions made prior to the discovery of the literature.
There are birth records from Klostergrab.
There are known residents of Klostergrab/Hrob with knowledge of the production facility.
There are records and geological studies of the area which not only locate the glassworks, but also locate the surface mines used to supply coal for the glass production facility.
There are records of many real estate holding owned by Franz Welz in the 1920's and 1930's in Klostergrab, along with medallions on building he owned showing both mining and glass blowing figures.
There are family tree records going back to the early 1600's.
There are actual known blueprints for Antonienhütte built in 1894, showing the layout of the production famility.
There are living descendants of Franz Welz with knowledge of the family and the production.
There is a Gold Medal award from Brussels in 1909..... which was awarded to Franz Welz Klostergrab.
There are known photographs of the production facility.
There are known U.S. Congressional records indicating that their glass was imported to the U.S as early and the 1890's.
There are recognized patents filed by Welz in the U.S. and also Europe, for processes used for glass production.
There is documentation in books such as Passau and Truitt acknowledging their existence and their production ......and I could go on and on........

My take would be the only thing here that is an "invention" would be the idea that they did not produce glass......

I guess it is like the old saying goes.....

You can lead a horse to water..... but you can not make them drink.

I should have stated above that the blueprints for the production facility Antonienhütte are dated 1894..... not built in 1894..... it is possible it was either a new facility, or was a remodel of an existing facility. That is not clear yet.

I realized that the date for the Brussels award was off by a year, and that is was awarded to Welz in 1910. I just wanted to make sure the information presented here was accurate.
