This interesting piece came from GW. As the label states it's Royal Canadian Art Pottery produced in Southampton Ontario, Canada. I checked online and the image galleries show mostly teapots. There were one or two of these "cookie jars" but in different shapes. This one looks like a pot belly stove with just a few touches of bright orange red glaze to simulate the fire and glowing embers. The body is made from a reddish clay that can be seen on the bottom of the feet. It's in perfect condition with it's label so I'm sure it was never used for it's intended purpose. Don't know much about this company. Maybe some of our fellow Canadian CW collectors can shed some light on this for me. -Mike-

Yes, they made lots of Teapots, and Creamer/Sugar item.
Is yours a bean pot, or a cookie Jar? I think they made some cookie Jar too. I hunted around and did not find your item yet -- Nor have I ever seen your item myself. I think you have a rarer piece by them, and with the label.
Does your item have just the label, or does it also have the imprint on the bottom like shown in my RCAP post.

Thanks Phil , Rose, and Nuts....... Yes, I can see this not being to everyone's taste. It took me a while to warm up to it or even figure out what it was suppose to represent.At first I thought it was a barrel till I noticed how the red glaze was placed. I guess the label is what motivated me to buy it. There is no mark on the bottom Rose and I think you might be right about it being a cookie jar. It's a very thin and light construction. I don't think it would hold up to baking beans in an oven very well. It does seem to be a rarer piece as well among all their teapots

Yes, I buy things for labels all the time......I can't walk past something I have not seen before and if has a old foil label on it that I have not seen. Thus start the research.....LOL
It's about 11" tall and 6" x 6" at the base.
Hmm ....I guess McCoy made these too ! Here's a white version on Ebay and it's marked McCoy on the bottom. Interesting, I wonder what the connection is between these two companies.

First thing I note is different Clay is used.
I heard about companies buying out molds from a company that closes, and them re-using the molds for their own ware.
I could say the LABEL is an IMPORT label -- but then I have a piece that has the label and also HAS the name imprinted in the base. So therefore, IMHO - the label can NOT be just an Import label. RCAP was a pottery maker!
