      yes, idcloisonne - i'm looking for what this kind of object is called. i think it's a diorama - which just occurred to me now! so thanks for the help by piquing my memory!!

      thanks idcloisonne. i'm happy w/ the word 'diorama'. it's used to describe large museum displays as well as small little framed displays.
