This is an old handpainted porcelain on mother of pearl brooch in a rare very tiny cut steel frame. I'v read somewhere that the more cuts in the steel the older the work. Every cut steel piece has a lot of very tiny sites made in. Probably dating around 1850 even earlier.

I think you will find that the mother of pearl is a separate backing piece to hide the back of the porcelain plaque. I have a very similar 18th c brooch with a pair of sweethearts on it. I'm trying to identify it too..

    Hugh,
Thanks for your suggestion. You could possible be right. What is niceabout this particular brooch is the combination with the very tiny cut steel mounting. And yes the moether of pearl is a separate backing piece. But why did they to is this way? I dont't know the answer. Please if you research things about your similar brooch please be so kind to let me know too? Thanking in advance!
