Calling on the resident experts! This one looks rather stunning from the detailed ornamentation and unusual interior. No apparent branding and unfortunately covered in paint. I would imagine stripping it away would be quite a challenge.

Any thoughts on it's possible origins ? Caught my eye as it gave away a very sophisticated vibe.

Potential beauty? It's already a beauty. Even if someone did repaint it if they did. I'll bet trunkman is researching it right now.

Gorgeous trunk no question. This would be the "top of the line" trunk for whoever manufactured it. These trunks were often called a Saratoga Trunk. Attention to detail and high quality hardware from the number 4 cast iron latched to corner pieces and fingering. A showcase trunk highlighting their best effort -- great wow factor. I would like to see a pic of the back hinge to see if it was patented by a familiar maker. I wish I knew who made this one but alas -- I do not. I hope some of the trunk experts out there might know. Totally worth taking the black paint off of the wood and hardware. Congrats on a beautiful trunk find!!!

ps. I would classify this as a "Bride's Model" Saratoga trunk.

Thanks for the info Trunkman, much appreciated. I haven't acquired this one yet as the asking price is rather steep (500$ seems high to me). Had it been in a perfect no work required condition it might have made more sense but then again, I'm far from an expert.

I've asked for further pictures, espcially the hinges.

It's amazing!!! the inside really looked like a feminine think to me.

It's fascinating this world of trunks! ;)
